March 31:Global Day of Action for TIBET!



On Monday, March 31st, as the Olympic torch relay arrives in Beijing with much celebration and fanfare, Tibetans and supporters around the world will take part in a Global Day of Action for Tibet. Click here to find a protest or vigil near you. If you are organizing an event on this day, please let us know by email: kala@studentsforafreetibet.org

On the day of action, Avaaz - the global organization that has collected an unprecedented 1.2 million signatures in support of Tibet - will be delivering this historic petition to Chinese embassies and consulates around the world. Tibetans Disrupt Chinese Government Media Tour

A group of Tibetan monks disrupted a tightly controlled Chinese government media tour in Lhasa today — the only foreign media that has been allowed into Tibet since widespread protests of Chinese rule gripped the nation.

IOC: NO TORCH THROUGH TIBET!

TAKE ACTION NOW and tell the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to immediately remove Tibet from the Olympic torch relay route.

On March 24, several Tibetans were arrested in Olympia, Greece for protesting the launch of China's Olympic torch relay. Click here for BBC's video coverage of the protests.

20 TIBETANS KILLED BY CHINESE FORCES IN NGABA, AMDO

New information and photos of the protests in Ngaba "Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture" in the Tibetan province of Amdo on March 16th have been made available today by local sources. Click here to see photos (Warning: photos are graphic and very disturbing). 20,000 Tibetans are reported to have joined the uprising in Ngaba.

Tibetan Students Rise Up In Tibet & China

Dozens of Tibetan students in Beijing held a candle light vigil at the Central University for Nationalities. Around 500 Tibetan students in Lanzhou, eastern Tibet, undertook a 24-hour hunger strike to protest China's violent crackdown on Tibetans. Click here to read more. Update from India: Tibetan Marchers Arrested

March to Tibet: Over 100 core-marchers left Dharamsala, India this morning on route to Tibet, launching a historic return march to their homeland in the lead up to the Beijing Olympics.

Tibetan Freedom Torch: Tibetans launched the Tibetan Freedom Torch Relay in Olympia today under intense scrutiny and harassment from Greek police and Chinese government officials.

TIBET ACTIVISTS PROTEST 2008 OLYMPICS AT GREAT WALL OF CHINA

Six Tibet independence activists from the UK, US, and Canada were detained on August 7th, after rappelling from the top of the Great Wall of China with a 450-square foot protest banner reading “One World, One Dream, Free Tibet 2008” in English and Chinese. The dramatic action took place on the eve of the one-year countdown to the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Chinese authorities removed the activists after two hours; their current whereabouts are unknown.

Lhadon speaks out one year before the Beijing Olympics

SFT's Executive Director Lhadon Tethong was in Beijing for the one-year countdown to the 2008 Olympic Games. From the heart of the nation that has brutally occupied her homeland for over 50 years, she reported on the Chinese government's attempts to use the Olympics to obscure the occupation of Tibet, and how we will "challenge them at every turn."
