tom dixon in collaboration with rodeca and modul has designed the rodeca pavillion.
it will be installed as part of the 100% detail bar. the structure was designed using
minimal materials and features rodeca's transparent wall sheets. this year's
100% detail event will focus on sustainability, innovation and design for the
built enviror

luxembourgian artist su-mei tse's paintings and sound installations have been compared to haiku poetry
by art critics. 'in her work she uses constantly shifting, constantly re-examined points of view to work
towards harmony between apparently antagonistic organic, material and cultural elements. sound,
rhythm, and music are important components in her work, which is characterized by a placing in
suspension, moments of silence and an invitation to a degree of introspection'. in 2003 she represented
luxembourg at the venice biennale of art and won the golden lion award. since then she has shown in
london, paris, new york and next year su-mei tse will have a solo exhibition at the art tower, mito, japan
from feb 7 until may 10 (2009).

yesterday the victoria and albert museum in london bought the original artwork of the rolling stones' iconic red lips
and tongue logo at auction. the V&A paid 92,500 USD for the logo after it was put up for sale by british designer
john pasche, who designed it in 1970 while he was still a student at the royal college of art - he was paid 50 GBP.
john pasche say he will use the money to finance his sons education, you can find more on the story over on the

the logo was first used on the 'sticky fingers' album insert sleeve, 1971.

doriana fuksas will present 'kensington gardens'. the installation is comprised of three rooms that
cannot be entered physically. instead, visitors are invited to discover the 'secret' interiors via spy holes.

torafu architects are the designers of this residence in yokohama, japan. the concrete structure was
completed in may of this year. the home’s design is very minimal on the exterior. the form is a small
cube which has vaulted areas on all four corners. each of these columns has a skuylight which
illuminates the interior. the main floor recives much of the illumination while the taller column houses
one of the home’s bedrooms.

photographers have always admired the photo geniality of beaches; the white sands, the water and
the open sky. photographer andy hughes also likes to photograph beaches, however he chooses to
focus in on a more un-photogenic aspect of the beach: trash. through the low perspective images of
his series 'dominant wave theory', hughes photographs plastic trash which has been washed ashore
or left on the beach. these images make the trash itself appear like a landscape or portrait. taken at
beaches in the US and the UK, hughes manages to make what would normally be a blemish on
pristine beaches, into the main focus.
the wasted plastic form is a predominant theme in my work. these images are meant to engage the
viewer to consider a key pressing dilemma of our modern existence; they search for a dialogue
between attraction and repulsion, discord and harmony.

the house of viktor & rolf barbican art gallery, london
june 18 – september 21, 2008
for the duration of the summer and a few weeks in septmeber, the barbican art gallery has been running
the first UK exhibition of the dutch fashion duo viktor & rolf. the exhibit will showcase their work from its
beginning in 1992 to the present day. the evolution of their work will be represented by key pieces from
their career. while their best known work will most definitely be included in the show, other lesser known
pieces and collection will also be included. one such example is their ‘launch’ collection that was completed
in 1996, before the designers became well-known. the collection was shown on small dolls and included
a catwalk, shop and fake ad campaign. the exhibit design was done by siebe tettero, the dutch architect
responsible for viktor & rolf’s ‘upside down’ boutique in milan.

near the beginning of 2008, designboom featured the sayama flat by schemata architects. this unusual
apartment renovation blended rich traditional japanese materials with raw concrete and other building
materials. ‘bench2’ is a furniture project designed by the studio demonstrating a similar juxtaposition.
6 chairs were converted into one long bench by removing the seat pans of the individual chairs and
replacing them with one long plank. the bench was exhibited at ‘new tokyo contemporaries’ in
marunouchi, tokyo.

'african spirits' is a series of 14 autoportraits by photographer samuel fosso. the exhibition
brings together fosso's concept of reinterpreting photographic icons of the great
cultural leaders and minds from independent african states, the civil rights movement in

miles davis, martin luther king, malcolm X or muhammad ali.
